So this is pretty much one of the simplest meals you can make that looks like you put a ton of effort into it.
I did not come up with this idea, only the idea to put it in the air fryer (which made it much faster to make!). The original recipe is HERE: they refer to these as cheesy taco sticks but I made mine a bit shorter and fatter in shape, so I think they turned out more like mini taco calzones.
Here are the ingredients:
- Prepared taco meat (I used ground turkey breast for this)
- cheese of your choosing (I did some with pepper jack chunks and some with a mix of Mexican cheese and quesadilla cheese)
- 1 thing of pizza dough — I’d suggest a thin crust (can get in refrigerated section)
- optional – melted butter/garlic powder/parsley — to make the crust extra tasty
Here’s how it goes:
Roll our your pizza dough to as thin as you can make it, then cut into even strips. I did 6 lines one way, and then cut down the center, to make a total of 12 strips.
Then flatten each section with your fingers, to get it as flat as you can.
After you flatten, add a bit of the taco meat and your cheese selection to one half of the pizza dough strip. Fold the pizza dough over and crease the edges together with your fingers.
Do this to all sections of the dough. Then, top with melted butter with a bit of garlic powder and parsley.
Put in the air fryer at 370 degrees for 7-10 minutes, flipping halfway in between. Keep a close eye on the first batch, in case your air fryer cooks faster.
If you’re making them in the oven, cook at 400 degrees for 12-15 min. You just want to make sure the dough is cooked through to the center.
I made a little taco bar for dipping and sides with guacamole, salsa, sour cream, cilantro rice, and black beans. And tortilla chips, of course!
